Doug Newcomb has a BS and MA in Geography and is an advocate of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in general and geospatial software specifically. Doug has used Linux (Red Hat, CentOS,Debian,Ubuntu) since 1996. Employed at various government environmental agencies since 1990. Specializes in use of GRASS with incomplete LiDAR data to derive landscape scale (statewide) forest canopy structure data. +
Joana is a software developer, data scientist and strategist in the field of geospatial information and technologies. She has worked in different environments, ranging from academia to industry, and has always advocated for FOSS in general, and FOSS4G in particular. When working at the United Nations, she led the migration of a code base, from proprietary technologies to FOSS, and refactored the FAO GIS course, to take advantage of FOSS4G. Joana uses a myriad of FOSS4G technologies on her daily work and during her free time, and has occasionally contributed to projects such as QGIS, or GeoNetwork. She joined the local chapters of the countries where she lived (e.g.: UK, Spain) and currently she is serving as a board member at the Portuguese Local chapter. +
Joana is a software engineer with more than fifteen years of experience, with a sound expertise in the field of geospatial tech and analytics. After acquiring a PhD in Geographic Information Systems, at the University College of London (2007), her drive to solve real-world problems has led her to SMEs, an international organization, a research foundation and a start-up. Joana has been very much involved in the Free and Open Source Software community, in particular in what concerns geospatial technologies, standards and data. This has led her to become a charter member of the Open Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) in 2017, and the vice-president of the Portuguese chapter of OSGeo. During 2017 she also took a leading role at the board of the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure Association (GSDI), as a board director of the Industry Advisory Council.
Joana is the founder of ByteRoad, an R&D company in the field of spatial data infrastructures and leads Developer Relations at OGC. She is also a reviewer for the European Commission, and has been deeply involved in education, teaching the next generation of full-stack developers and data analysts. +
Dražen is researcher and teacher in cartography and geoinformatics. His special interest and developing is in the field of map projections and cartographic generalization. He established Open Source Geospatial Lab at the Faculty of Geodesy, University of Zagreb. +

It's been over 20 years working in the Pacific Islands region, specializing in ICTs and Geo-spatial Solutions, and offering my skills and talents to support the building of FOSS solutions across the Pacific. Am also a Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs) as in Blockchain and Hashgraph enthusiast. Working towards integration DLTs and Geospatial Systems. +
I have loved maps since I was gifted a Dorling Kindersley World Atlas as a child. Over time that interest evolved and was satiated through travel and learning about other cultures, but the maps themselves remained elusive. It was only when I joined Mapillary in 2015 that I was able to explore my interest in maps and geospatial further, initially through OpenStreetMap, and later through QGIS. Both projects have opened my eyes to the world of maps and open source, but more important to me are the practical applications of these tools. Seeing the connection between maps of cycle infrastructure in Ottawa and government initiatives to reduce fatalities is one such example, but I have been fortunate to play a small part in others such as flood resilience, wheelchair accessibility, and government asset management programs. All of these projects demonstrated to me the powerful insights geospatial tools can provide, and the sheer capability and talent within the OSGeo community.
Since returning to Australia in December 2016, I have enjoyed engaging with the local communities of the region, and working together with others to build a strong regional geospatial community. In 2018 we put together the first FOSS4G SotM Oceania which was an overwhelming success with 250 people attending. Building upon this, we have created the entity OSGeo Oceania to support future conferences, improve participation, and elicit new perspectives. I led sponsorship efforts for FOSS4G SotM Oceania 2019 in Wellington, New Zealand and am happy to say the conference was a wonderful continuation from the prior year with record sponsorship that helps ensure the sustainability of OSGeo Oceania in the years to come.
My efforts are currently focused on the Membership Working Group so that we can increase the diversity within the organisation while getting more people involved.

Hello there! I am a sophomore in Texas and I’m thrilled to be working with OSGeo and support open source.
I’ve always been an extremely avid learner of geography and cartography. Ever since I was young, I would map out locations for fun, be it of my house, in my neighborhood, or of expansive video game worlds. My interest in maps lies in their raw power and how they are able to communicate mountains of information in a streamlined, visual medium. Their applications are infinite, and I love their functionality for the improvement of lives around the world (e.g. with resource distribution and sustainable development).
I have very basic knowledge of Java, Javascript, and html, and I participated in GitHub’s Hacktoberfest 2017 for open source projects.
I play the cello and piano, fluently speak 2 languages, and partake in math and world affairs competitions. My passion is volunteering to help youth, as I spend time as a general volunteer at a nature and science museum and with multiple youth-run organizations that work for the betterment of education and wellbeing of children. +
