Welcome to an exciting year of community building at OSGeo! Many of our activities are only possible thanks to the support of our volunteers and sponsors. If you are in position to finacially support our community, events and activities in 2018 we would love to hear from you.

OSGeo sponsorship is accumulated across events recognizing organizations that support us financially at each level of our community from grass roots local chapter advocacy, hands on project sprints, industry focused foundation initiatives, to outreach at FOSS4G internationally.

OSGeo initiatives:

* The conference committee heads up a travel grant program offering financial assistence to help attend OSGeo events.
* UN Committee is spearheading a series of capacity building exercises supporting open source adoption through improvements to documentation. This initative encourages young innovators, selecting from competing bids to directly support open source.

The Annual General Meeting for OSGeo is open to everybody.

The goal is to:

FOSS4G 2017 Code Sprint

Venue: Boston, Massachusetts, United States

This year, once again, we are following the old tradition of hosting a code sprint right after [http://2017.foss4g.org FOSS4G 2017].
The code sprint will be held Saturday August 19th, 2017 at District Hall (http://www.districthallboston.org/).

Participation in the code sprint is free of charge and all folks currently involved or interested in getting involved in OSGeo community projects are welcome.

This is open to all who wish to participate in one or more projects. There’s always plenty to do – it’s not all about programming. Translation, documentation, feedback, discussions, and testing are also very important for projects! Registration with the conference is not a prerequisite for participation in code sprint.

If you plan to attend, please signup in the table below so we have ample time for planning of snacks and drinks!

One thing we’d like to ask you: with over 200 participants anticipated, the WLAN capacity will naturally be exhausted at some point. Please be sure to avoid huge on-site downloads of data, as this could impact the work of others. Thank you!

This year, once again, we are following the old tradition of hosting a codesprint on the FOSS4G. More precisely, we offer a setting so that individual projects can meet for their codesprint. Working zones will be created for you in the breakfast area and hallways. Additionally, an outdoor area is available for you to enjoy Bonn’s summer weather in August, while working. Healthy and not-so-healthy catering of drinks and snacks will be provided by us. Participation in codesprint is free of charge. However, overnight stays will have to be reserved and paid for by you.

This year, once again, we are following the old tradition of hosting a codesprint on the FOSS4G. More precisely, we offer a setting so that individual projects can meet for their codesprint. Since projects benefit from each other as well, the codesprint will naturally be held conjointly at one place.

Working zones will be created for you in the breakfast area and hallways. Additionally, an outdoor area is available for you to enjoy Bonn’s summer weather in August, while working. Healthy and not-so-healthy catering of drinks and snacks will be provided by us. == Code Sprint - what's that? ==

A code sprint is about getting a group together to work on Open Source software, sitting around a table and sharing ideas. It's not just about writing code, as you know a project has many needs including documentation, testing, and providing feedback. What a better way to give feedback and give back to the project that you love than to spend a day with the project's developers. There are roles needed to be filled, no matter what your expertise.

With such a short timeframe (one day) you should probably use this page to set a specific goal for your project. But don't worry, if all you get done is actually sitting at the same table with the project's developers and talking about the next release, that is also great :)

All participants are welcome and you don't need to register or attend FOSS4G to attend the Code Sprint (registering here on the wiki is appreciated for planning purposes like coffee and food). Some projects will prefer attendees who have previously engaged with the project and already have a working development environment on their computer (i.e. not all project will welcome helping you set up your development environment).

Mark Lucas has pioneered efforts in Open Source Software Development in remote sensing, image processing and geographical information systems. Mark established ossim.org and has led several government funded studies and development efforts since 1996. These efforts include the Open Source Software Image Map [http://www.ossim.org OSSIM] projects for the [http://www.nro.mil NRO], the Open Source Prototype Research and Open Source extraordinary Program projects for [http://www.nga.mil NGA]. == Free meditation and relaxing movements sessions ==

There are so many interesting people and ideas at FOSS4G that I’ve found it can be really helpful to have a quiet, meditative moment or two to let it all sink in. The intention is to help one release stress and relax muscles that commonly become tight from computer/desk work, travel, carrying bags.. the common issues that tend to manifest at a week-long conference! I’ve been leading meditation sessions for co-workers at MIT and receiving very positive feedback about how helpful they are.

My plan is to hold a few 30-minute, sessions of relaxed meditative breathing and gentle movements during the FOSS4G conference at the following times:

*Thurs 5:30 pm
*Friday 5 pm - after the Annual General Meeting

These sessions are available to anyone, including people with no prior experience with any movement styles, those who do not feel particularly flexible, and folks who are in their work/meeting clothes. == Key Accomplishments ==
* Held the 4th annual conference in November in [http://www.osgeo.jp/foss4g2009-in-tokyo/ Tokyo] and [http://www.osgeo.jp/foss4g2009-in-osaka/ Osaka], attended 150 active people.

Invited Arnulf Christl, president of OSGeo Foundation, to give them a speech and promoted OSGeo and its community. Chris Holmes, Eugenio Realini Gerald Fenoy and many local speakers gave speech.

Held 4 hands-on sessions (pgRouting, MapServer, GeoServer and QuantumGIS) both in Tokyo and Osaka.

In this event, we organized collaboration with other “geo-friendly” communities such as “GeoMedia (geo mash up folks)”, Open Street Map Japan and Android.

* 5 local sponsors, Osaka-city University, Autodesk Japan, Ouyougijyutsu, Mapconcielge and Orkney.
* Organized "Osaka mini event" in September. Eugenio Realini, Nicolas Bozon and Naoki Ueda give speech.
* Promoted OSGeo.JP activities to international OSGeo community.
* Organized local board committee regularly.

* Cameron Shorter, plans to position himself for most of the conference at the OSGeo booth, switching hats between OSGeo, FOSS4G chair, and LISAsoft (LISAsoft has sponsored the charging station next to OSGeo's booth)
* LISAsoft intends to provide 2 employees for the booth at all times, Mark Leslie, Jody Garnett and Jim Groffen will also be distracted with workshops and the demo theatre, Lee Hughes, Juliet Lin and Terry Collins will be covering.
