WORK IN PROGRESS - Reviewing the concepts as laid out here http://wiki.qgis.org/qgiswiki/DocumentationWritersCorner
-----
The primary version of the OSGeo Journal is written in United States English. Translators are welcome to translate any portion of the OSGeo Journal into another language, but must work as close as possible with the Journal editorial team.

Please join the Journal mailing list and introduce yourself as a translator. Also add yourself to the appropriate list(s) below.

Guidelines
Please review the Journal Licensing and Guidelines page first, to read about licensing conditions of the work. There must be at least two people reviewing a translated work for a particular language, to help ensure accurate translation. A single translator must have someone proof-read the final work.

DRAFT Ideas - need refining

Process
The text of the Journal is managed in a subversion code repository, as latex text files. When a volume of the Journal is released as US English, it is always stored in a folder with a version number and a folder called en-us, i.e. journal/volume_1/en-us.

Other language specific branches can then be made using their two letter language code and, optionally, a two letter country code (e.g. es for Spanish, pt for Portuguese, pt-br for Brazilian Portuguese, etc.).

Setting up SVN
Administrator creates language specific folder from a copy of main version
svn copy -m "set up french version" http://svn.osgeo.org/osgeo/journal/volume_1/en-us http://svn.osgeo.org/osgeo/journal/volume_1/fr

Translator checks out language specific folder
svn checkout http://svn.osgeo.org/osgeo/journal/volume_1/fr

Translator edits files in local copy of the language folder - not in main volume folder
vi fr/editorial/mitchell.tex
vi fr/topical/blake/blake.tex
etc...

Compiling documentation should still work after translation
cd fr
make
cp OSGeoJournal_vol1.pdf final_pdfs

Submit back to repository
svn commit --message "comments here" fr

Proof reader and co-translators must then review changes. Editorial team can then post the translated version to the main Journal pages.

Key Accomplishments
2012 has been a very positive year for the UK chapter. We have exceeded 150 members on our mailing list and we continue to hold regular IRC meetings, helping our members to stay in touch. We also had another very successful event at OSGIS 2012 in Nottingham where the chapter's Annual General Meetings are held. Our stall at GISRUK was well received, with lots of Live DVDs and leaflets being handed out.

In June, our bid to host the annual international FOSS4G Conference was successful - FOSS4G will be coming to the UK in 2013! We are pleased to have a strong local organising committee and we are confident that we can deliver an exceptional event on behalf of the global OSGeo community.

In September, Jo Cook stepped down as the UK's chapter representative having been in post since the chapter's foundation in 2006. Ian Edwards has taken on the role for the following year. This will allow Jo, and other key members of the UK committee, to focus on preparations for FOSS4G in September 2013.

Areas for Improvement
FOSS4G 2013 will draw extra attention to the UK chapter and help us to continue to raise the profile of open source geospatial software in the UK. We anticipate that we will gain more members as a result of the event and we also anticipate that there will be new interest in the chapter following the event.

Opportunities to Help
We are always on the lookout for new members, and new events where we can promote OSGeo. If you would like to take an active role on the OSGeo:UK committee, or to find out more about the way we work, be sure to come along to our annual general meeting at the end of FOSS4G in Nottingham (Sunday 22nd September - OSGeo chapter meetings). You can also get in touch at anytime by emailing uk@osgeo.org.

Join the chapter mailing list and get involved! (http://www.osgeo.org/uk/mailing_list)

Outlook for 2013
The next year promises to be an exhilarating time for the UK chapter following our successful bid to host FOSS4G in the UK. We will continue our strong association with the UK's AGI, with chapter members being involved in regional events, and the annual AGI GeoCommunity conference being held immediately before FOSS4G. We are also very pleased that FOSS4G will be held in Nottingham and will build on the success of the four annual UK OSGIS events that OSGeo:UK have held in collaboration with the University of Nottingham.

* Para seguir los hilos del grupo de trabajo en la lista de correo: [Grupo python] Asunto...
* Facilitador: Graeme

4.- Debate final

* Ideas y conclusiones de Jornadas de Girona
* Charla de Félix sobre Open Knowledge
* Jesús (Caudamax)

OSGeo Korean Language Chapter Activity Report 2011
* Period covered by report: Jan-Dec 2011
* Contact name: Sanghee Shin(endofcap at gmail.com)
*The OSGeo Korean Language Chapter was formed as an unofficial chapter in Feb 2008 and changed its status to an official OSGeo Local Chapter in March 2009. The OSGeo Korean Language Chapter had 194 members as of Dec 31st, 2011.

Key Accomplishments
*Events
**FOSS4G Korea 2011 : The first annual OSGeo Korean Language Chapter conference.
***Date: October 28th, 2011
***Venue: KINTEX, Goyang City
***Organizer: OSGeo Korean Language Chapter
***Keynote Speakers : Arnulf Christl, Toru Mori, Daisuke Yoshida, Byungnam Choi, Sanghee Shin
***The event was highly successful with around 60 ~ 80 participants. 5 keynote speech and 8 presentations were given there followed by Soju Party!!

*Regular Meetings
**2 times regular meetings
**Date: February and August, 2011
**Place: Seoul
**Our members shared knowledge & experiences around open source GIS in the regular meetings. Also we discussed the future activities of OSGeo Korean Language Chapter.

*Localizations & Translations
**Korean chapter carried out several localization & translations.
**QGIS menu & messages were translated in Korean
**Started to translate QGIS, PostGIS, GeoServer and OpenLayers materials in Korean

*Projects
**Korean chapter has been involved in several open source related projects fully and partially.
**KOPSS(Korea Planning Support System) Open API Project funded by KRIHS(Korean Research Institute of Human Settlement)
**"Strategies on building the platform for geospatial information technology development : based on open source thinking" funded by KRIHS(Korean Research Institute of Human Settlement)
**Developed open source GIS education program funded by NECGIS(National Education Center for GIS)

*Outreach Activities
**Korean chapter conducted several outreach activities including lecture, seminar and exchange programs.
**Outreach Lectures : LH Corp, KRIHS, KCSC(Korea Cadastral Survey Corp) and others
**Exchange Program : Dispatched 2 delegates to Tokyo, Japan to give keynote speech at FOSS4G 2011 Tokyo/Osaka

*Others
**Official OSGeo Koran Language Chapter homepage was created to share our activities. http://www.osgeo.kr

Areas for Improvement
*Too much dependency on too small key members. We need to increase active members.
*Korean chapter is still not legal entity, therefore there are several limitations to do our activities. We need to change our status to legal entity in near future.
*Need to expand activities to international scale. Our chapter has very talented members however their activities are somewhat isolated here in Korea.
*We need to seek stable revenue source to run our chapter. Our chapter financial is highly dependent on limited donation sources.

Opportunities to Help
*We definitely need some speakers for FOSS4G Korea 2012.
*We hope more open source GIS related event could be held here in Korea or in Asia region.

Outlook for 2012
*We may see very prosperous year in 2012. As awareness of open source GIS increase here in Korea rapidly, many organizations want to cooperate with our chapter.
*In 2012, we may attract more members to our chapter and could run our chapter in more systematic way.
*We'll explore the possibility of hosing FOSS4G 2015 in Korea with other GIS related society like KSIS(Korean Spatial Information Society).
