* O Tyler fez uma apresentação sobre como estão sendo compostos os capítulos da OSGeo, citando exemplos e explicando que a criação dos mesmos está relacionada a algum tipo de característica em comum dos grupos podendo ser geográfica (de um mesmo país, por exemplo), língua, etc.
* O Uchoa explicou para o Tyler que o grupo (presente naquele momento em Brasília) era pequeno em relação a comunidade brasileira. Estava faltando alguns membros importantes da comunidade de FOSS GIS, bem como não existia qualquer membro da região Norte. Da região Nordeste, existia apenas um pequeno grupo da Bahia.
* Foi feito uma divisão de atividades. O André Cruvinel preparou um quadro com a divisão das atividades e os nomes dos envolvidos em cada uma delas. Entre as atividades, ficou estabelecido um comitê temporário para tratar do capítulo brasileiro da OSGeo.
* O Rafael Sperb apresentou a idéia de propor o FOSS4GIS em Florianópolis. O Uchoa apresentou algumas considerações no sentido de que fazer um evento deste porte fora da cidade de São Paulo (onde se concentram os grandes eventos de tecnologias do país) poderia gerar dificuldade de captação de recursos de patrocinadores, tendo em vista que as grandes empresas de GEO e TI estão em SP, e os grandes negócios são tratados e fechados por lá.

Aos usuários brasileiros de softwares livres geoespaciais:

A criação de uma espécie de Seção Brasileira da OSGeo é o objetivo desta página.
Primeiramente gostaríamos de saber quem são os brasileiros trabalhando com geotecnologias livres, onde trabalham e o que fazem.
Depois poderíamos organizar uma reunião e fundar a associação propriamente dita.

Alguns dos objetivos que podem ser alcançados de maneira mais eficiente com a criação de um grupo local forte:

* Localização das interfaces dos programas;
* Melhoria da documentação em português;
* Criação e desenvolvimento de 'expertise' nacional;
* Influenciar na adoção de geotecnologias livre nos governos;
* Influenciar nas políticas relacionadas á geoinformação, semelhante á iniciativa [http://publicgeodata.org Public GeoData], em consonância com as diretrizes do [[Public Geospatial Data Committee]], adaptado ás necessidades e realidades nacionais;
* Divulgação e promoção da OSGeo como um todo, consoante ás diretrizes do [[Promotion and Visibility Committee]];
* Promover a adoção da educação em geotecnologias a partir dos softwares livres existentes, conforme o [[Education and Curriculum Committee]], bem como participar da elaboração de uma proposta de currículo educacional em geotecnologias livres

| I come from the Java side of the OSGeo fence, getting my start in GeoServer, where I was lead developer for a couple years, and GeoTools, where I still serve on the PMC. I spent the last year in Zambia on a Fulbright Scholarship, looking at the potential for open source software to help implement spatial data infrastructures in developing countries. It was a bit of a failure, but I learned a ton, and I see a lot of potential for open source in developing countries, towards truly open spatial data infrastructures. I'm back at TOPP, in a new role as VP of Strategic Development, helping to grow the organization, and figuring out how to make our geospatial stuff self sustaining. Once that's rolling, I hope to reinvest extra revenue in to figuring out and building a truly open geospatial web. And just like apache and linux are the bedrock that the World Wide Web rests on, so too do I believe that the geospatial web necessarily must be built on a foundation of OS Geo software. I'm back at TOPP, in a new role as VP of Strategic Development, helping to grow the organization, and figuring out how to make our geospatial stuff self sustaining. Once that's rolling, I hope to reinvest extra revenue in to figuring out and building a truly open geospatial web. And just like apache and linux are the bedrock that the World Wide Web rests on, so too do I believe that the geospatial web necessarily must be built on a foundation of OS Geo software.
