This year, once again, we are following the old tradition of hosting a codesprint on the FOSS4G. More precisely, we offer a setting so that individual projects can meet for their codesprint. Since projects benefit from each other as well, the codesprint will naturally be held conjointly at one place.
Unfortunately, circumstances have forced us to divide the codesprint timetable-wise.

The first two and a half days start on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at around noon and are scheduled to end on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 (open end). We are happy to have found a really '''awesome location''' for you. Codesprint and accommodations are combined in one hall. Check out http://www.basecamp-bonn.com/ for details about the venue.
Working zones will be created for you in the breakfast area and hallways. There’s the option of finding relatively inexpensive sleeping accommodations in train sleeping cars, camping buses, classic cars and more. Additionally, an outdoor area is available for you to enjoy Bonn’s summer weather in August, while working. Healthy and not-so-healthy catering of drinks and snacks will be provided by us. Participation in codesprint is free of charge. However, overnight stays will have to be reserved and paid for by you.

You see, it’s worthwhile booking here!

As the accommodations are available to all FOSS4G participants, we will make an effort to make advance booking possible for you a few days ahead, to ensure you have the opportunity to sleep on-site and wrap up the evenings jointly. For that, it’s necessary for you to sign up (https://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/FOSS4G_2016_Code_Sprint) and leave your email address so that we can contact you immediately accomodation booking is available. We need your sign-up for the planning of snacks and drinks, too!

This is open to all who wish to participate in one or more projects. There’s always plenty to do – it’s not all about programming. Translation, documentation, feedback, discussions, testing – all this is also important for project so everyone is cordially invited to attend the codesprints! Registration with the conference is not a prerequisite for participation in codesprint.

One thing we’d like to ask you: with an approx. 120 participants anticipated, the WLAN capacity will naturally be exhausted at some point. Please be sure to avoid huge on-site downloads of data, as this could impact the work of others. Thank you!

Center of Paris is indeed quite small, the sprint place quite central, and metro network quite dense. 
So no special need to be that close from the sprint place (anywhere else in Paris could also be fine, with less than 30-45' by tube).

sprinters as they work hard and play hard for four or five productive days.

sprinters, and potentially bringing in sprinters who might otherwise be unable
to attend. Any surplus at the end of the event will be turned over to OSGeo or
used for a future code sprint.

Get together project members to make decisions and tackle larger geospatial
problems (as done last year at the [[Boston Code Sprint 2013]] and previous
years: [[IslandWood Code Sprint 2012|Island Wood]] (2012),

[[New York Code Sprint 2010|New York City]] (2010), and
[[Toronto Code Sprint 2009|Toronto]] (2009)). This code sprint is targeting
members of the "C Tribe" (e.g., MapServer, QGis, GRASS, GDAL, Proj, PostGIS,
MapGuide, OpenLayers). Other tribes are welcome to join the sprint, of course,

== Purpose ==

Get together project members to make decisions and tackle larger geospatial problems (as done last year at the [[IslandWood Code Sprint 2012]] and previous years: [[Montreal Code Sprint 2011|Montreal]] (2011), [[New York Code Sprint 2010|New York City]] (2010), and [[Toronto Code Sprint 2009|Toronto]] (2009)). This code sprint is targeting members of the "C Tribe" (eg, MapServer, GRASS, GDAL, Proj, PostGIS, MapGuide, OpenLayers). Mike is with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Remote Sensing GIS Center,
and has been a longtime supporter of FOSS. Most recently he is working
very hard with Howard Butler to develop an Open Source point cloud
translation library, PDAL [1]. Mike is also very active in the
MapServer [2] community, as one of its most vocal power users, and in
2011 he was named to the MapServer Project Steering Committee [3].

I also had the pleasure of giving a MapServer workshop with Mike at
FOSS4G 2011 in Denver; many attendees said that it was a wonderful
workshop, and I attribute that to Mike's thorough knowledge of MapServer
and its recent changes.

Mike is often one of the first to sign up for Code Sprints, and register
for FOSS4G events, which to me says everything about his passion for
this community. He may not prefer to be giving fancy presentations and

I'd like to nominate Angelos Tzotsos as an OSGeo Charter member, as I believe he exemplifies many of the key qualities we look for in OSGeo Advocates.

For the last few OSGeo-Live releases, Angelos has taken responsibility for the OSGeo-Live build , then tested every application, and then worked with projects to help get them working on OSGeo-Live. He also contributes to a number of OSGeo projects, leads Greek OSGeo translations, and has presented on OSGeo topics at numerous conferences.

Angelos is a remote sensing expert with background in surveying engineering and software development. He is involved in numerous activities around free and open source software and has great experience in geospatial applications. Pedro-Juan has been really active at OSGeo and specially OSGeo Spanish
Language Local Chapter (OSGeo-es) since the beginning of its
activities. He is member of the Board of Directors of OSGeo-es
(recently re-elected) and the Liason Officer between the LC and the
Foundation, always attentive with any task required from him.

So he is an experienced OSGeo'er with a good knowledge of the
foundation internals and an advanced user with experience on many
FOSS4G tools as his talks about OSGeo and OSGeo Live can demonstrate.
Finally he is also very active at our microchapter here at Valencia[2]
with talks and workshops.

The Charter Membership is needed of active profiles like him, in my
humble opinion he is a truly OSGeo advocate.

Andrea as a key contributor to the GeoServer[1] and GeoTools[2] projects. Actually Andrea may be the key contributor - the GeoServer issue tracker lists Andrea as the project lead. While I feel I should quote some bug closing statistics here, what is more important is his commitment to the community (always ready with a code review) and supportive presence on the GeoServer [1] and GeoTools [2] user lists.

As a public representative Andrea is beloved for his effective stage presence. Most recognisable in the popular FOSS4G "WMS Shootout" series[3], or exploring topics at regional events (most recently making the trip to FOSS4G-NA [4]).

I have the honor to nominate Michael Smith for OSGeo Charter membership.

Mike is with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Remote Sensing GIS Center,
and has been a longtime supporter of FOSS. Most recently he is working
very hard with Howard Butler to develop an Open Source point cloud
translation library, PDAL [1]. Mike is also very active in the
MapServer [2] community, as one of its most vocal power users, and in
2011 he was named to the MapServer Project Steering Committee [3].

I also had the pleasure of giving a MapServer workshop with Mike at
FOSS4G 2011 in Denver; many attendees said that it was a wonderful
workshop, and I attribute that to Mike's thorough knowledge of MapServer
and its recent changes.

Mike is often one of the first to sign up for Code Sprints, and register
for FOSS4G events, which to me says everything about his passion for
this community. He may not prefer to be giving fancy presentations and
taking the glory, but scratch the surface of many OSGeo communities and
you'll find Mike supporting it in every way he can.

I feel that Mike Smith would be an excellent representative of OSGeo.

A code sprint is about getting a group together to work on Open Source software, sitting around a table and sharing ideas. It's not just about writing code, as you know a project has many needs including documentation, testing, and providing feedback.
