The UK local chapter of OSGeo wishes to establish a focal point for developers and users of open source geospatial software within the UK, for networking and advice, and to raise the profile of open source geospatial development within the UK. It wishes to promote open source geospatial software as a viable choice for all types of user. = Nederlandstalig OSGeo chapter =

Tijdens de FOSS4G 2011 conferentie in Denver is het idee ontstaan om het Dutch local chapter nieuw leven in te blazen. Een local chapter kan worden opgezet in de vorm van een vereniging maar het kan ook een meer informeel karakter hebben waarin een groep vrijwilligers activiteiten organiseren. De bedoeling is om op het [http://www.geo-info.nl/gin-congres GIN-congres] (30 november en 1 december 2011) te polsen of er onder de GIS-gebruikers en -ontwikkelaars in Nederland behoefte is aan een actieve lokale afdeling van OSGeo.

=Doelstelling=
Het doel van het Nederlandstalig OSGeo chapter is om het gebruik van open source GIS-software in het algemeen - en de OSGeo projecten in het bijzonder - in het Nederlandse taalgebied te stimuleren en te promoten. 
Dit doen we door:
* het promoten van OSGeo tijdens evenementen, symposia, enzovoorts.
* het creëren van mogelijkheden voor de leden om te netwerken en informatie uit te wisselen.
* het stimuleren van het [http://thepartyhub.com/contact-us/ party places] gebruik van open source GIS software aan universiteiten, hogescholen en andere onderwijsinstellingen.
* het stimuleren van het gebruik van open source GIS software bij overheidsinstellingen.
* het ondersteunen van open standaarden en de toegang tot open data in Nederland en nederlandstalige landen en gebieden.
* het vergroten van de toegankelijkheid door het ondersteunen en uitvoeren van de vertaling van belangrijke OSGeo onderdelen.

=Aanpak=
Het werven van leden en het inventariseren van de behoefte van (aspirant) leden heeft de hoogste prioriteit. 
Hoe pakken we dit aan? 
* Maak gebruik van de wiki en de mailinglijst: zorg ervoor dat de wiki up-to-date is en dat er regelmatig nieuwsberichten worden verspreid via de mailinglijst.
* Probeer via het netwerk van de reeds bestaande leden en sociale media als Twitter en LinkedIn geïnteresseerden te bereiken.
* Geef een presentatie en verspreid promotiemateriaal tijdens evenementen, zoals het [http://www.geo-info.nl/gin-congres GIN-congres], het Open Innovatie Festival (28 nov. t/m 2 dec. 2011) of [http://www.hackdeoverheid.nl Hack de Overheid]
* Zoek de samenwerking met organisaties en platformen als [http://www.noiv.nl Nederland Open in Verbinding (NOiV)]
 
Bij voldoende belangstellingen organiseren we in 2012 een OSGeo bijeenkomst met presentaties, workshops en een borrel.

We hebben promotiemateriaal nodig, bijvoorbeeld:

== About Ottawa OSGEO ==

The OGUG (Ottawa Grass Users Group) and OMSUG (Ottawa Map Server Users Group) have had a preliminary joint meeting and decided to pursue merging and broadening our collective focus to include all OSGeo projects, catering to any interested users or developers in the Ottawa (National Capital Region) area. We are now officially designated as an OSGeo chapter.

The Ottawa MapServer Users Group (OMSUG) began meeting during the winter of 2003. With a strong local user base in Ottawa, representing many diverse users and developers, these meetings provide a [http://thepartyhub.com/ event planners singapore] unique opportunity for members to meet and discuss how MapServer is being leveraged in Ottawa and ways we can work together to grow its use in the region.

OGUG formed in June of 2005 as a network of GIS practitioners interested in incorporating or replacing their proprietary GIS workflow with Open Source GIS Solutions. OGUG aimed to be a central body of knowledge and expertise for the GRASS GIS Community in the Ottawa area.

OSGeo BC forms a locus of interaction for the open source geospatial community in British Columbia, Canada. This community includes any individual with interest in open source geospatial.

OSGeo BC establishes a focal point for liaison, outreach, and technical interests within the geography of British Columbia.

The chapter is organized into Local Interest Groups, currently one in Victoria and one in Vancouver, whose primary purpose is to organize successive chapter events. == Segunda reunión ==
Hoy, 15 de Julio de 2011, ha tenido lugar la segunda reunión de Geoinquietos Cantabria en locales cedidos por la Universidad de Cantabria, gracias a las siempre eficaces gestiones logísticas de [http://twitter.com/#!/Chuchigarsan @chuchigarsan]. 
Hemos asistido siete personas, de las cuales dos era la primera vez que asistían. La cosa parece que se va animando.

Hoy, 15 de Julio de 2011, ha tenido lugar la segunda reunión de Geoinquietos Cantabria en locales cedidos por la Universidad de Cantabria, gracias a las siempre eficaces gestiones logísticas de [http://twitter.com/#!/Chuchigarsan @chuchigarsan]. 
Hemos asistido siete personas, de las cuales dos era la primera vez que asistían. La cosa parece que se va animando.

[http://live.osgeo.org OSGeo Live] provides [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_CD bootable ISO-Images] and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_machine Virtual Machines] which allow users to try out fully-operational versions of popular Free Geospatial Software without the need to install a thing. It should be able to function completely offline, at least within the scope of the tutorials, and should provide an introduction to many products. This is very much a Live DVD, and as such should be conservative with regards to size (it will be run from RAM).
* '''Education DVD''' This seems to be a more involved version than the Demo DVD, including more involved material, including train-the-trainer style material. This is targeted at those who will be teaching others, be it in workshops or university classes/labs. My expectation (mleslie: feel free to correct me) is that this is more likely to be installed on machines and used as a teaching resource, as opposed to a toy to play with, as with the Demo DVD. * '''Workstation Install DVD''' This need was seen in Cape Town, where the bandwidth seems to be a very limiting factor. Geographical Information Systems were seen as very special and very complex domain in India. There is a lot of hype attached with it and with that obviously high cost. So far such systems were seen as something to be used for high level planning and complex scientific operations by large corporates and Govt research agencies or departments only. Also the older mapping policy of India prevented virtually anybody except governments to possess any map data. The picture is however changing fast.
Some people are interested in mapdata as ]such licenced softwares remain unutilized in various government offices because they require either extensive training or easy availability on multiple locations. All this can be changed by the use of Free/Opensource software tools. There is hardly any proprietory GIS software that can show text in Unicode standard in maps . This is significant since all governmet data and most educational institutions work in local language media . FOSS GIS has already shown this solution. Thus, Free/Opensource Geospatial softwares which are much more powerful and usable can be used for developing systems where more and more public participation is sought.

The India OSGeo Chapter is formed to fulfill the mission
and objectives described in this document. India OSGeo Chapter will earnestly follow the Local Chapter Guidelines stipulated by OSGeo and cooperate closely with OSGeo Board in promoting the use and development of OSGeo projects in India.
