FOSS4G.be is een jaarlijkse conferentie <http://foss4g.be>, met als
thema de promotie van open source software voor het geografische domein.
Dit jaar zal FOSS4G.be plaatsvinden op 26 oktober in Tour en Taxi
(Brussel).

Als "GEO" conferentie vormen kaarten een belangrijk onderdeel en de
organisatie doet daarom een oproep voor het ter beschikking stellen van
allerlei kaarten, waarvan minimaal één stap in het proces gebaseerd is
op open source software voor geografische ondersteuning of met behulp
van open data.

We zijn op zoek naar bijdragen om op de FOSS4G kaartgallerij een
uitdagende en prikkelende overzicht te presenteren van het beste op vlak
van kartering.
Maak (of toon) je eigen kaart op basis van om het even welke gegevens.

Je kaart kan het resultaat zijn van een professionele activiteit of een
persoonlijke uitdaging. We verwachten inzendingen op papier (maximum A1). Indien je je kaart niet zelf kan afprinten kan je ze ook opsturen via
e-mail. Interactieve kaart zijn natuurlijk ook welkom (verwijs naar
de URL van de kaart).

Samen met je inzending bezorg je een korte
beschrijving van je kaart en van de methode om ze te creëren, eventueel
de gebruikte software en data voor de realisatie ervan.

De enige criteria om een bijdrage op te sturen zijn:
- de kaart werd in 2016-2017 gemaakt.
- minstens één stap in het productieproces is gebaseerd op geografische
open source software of open data

We nodigen iedereen uit: gebruikers, uitvinders of cartografen van
België of daarbuiten om een steentje bij te dragen aan de prachtige
kaartgallerij.

== Richtlijnen voor fysieke deelname aan de tentoonstelling==

E-mail map@foss4g.be ('''voor 22 oktober''') en vraag ons om je een plaats te reserveren in de gallerij.
Breng de dag van de conferentie een afgedrukte versie op papier mee van je kaart om ze in de gallerij te kunnen ophangen.
Je kaart moet op een A1 formaat worden afgedrukt om te kunnen passen in de kaders. Grotere kaarten worden niet toegestaan.

== Richtlijnen voor online deelname ==

Stuur je kaart door per mail '''voor 8 oktober''' (map@foss4g.be).

Opgestuurde kaarten moeten voldoen aan volgende criteria:

- Enkel .pdf formaat (waarbij alle lettertypes toegevoegd moeten zijn of moeten geconverteerd zijn als outlines)
- Minimale resolutie : 2342 x 3311 pixels (We drukken de kaarten af op een A1 formaat)

Indien je een interactieve kaart doorstuurt, gelieve de url te bezorgen.

Le FOSS4G.be est une conférence annuelle consacrée aux logiciels libres dédiés au geospatial. Cette année, notre événement se tiendra le 26 octobre à Tour et Taxi (Bruxelles)

En tant que conférence consacrée à la Géomatique, des cartes doivent très naturellement y trouver leur place! C'est pourquoi nous avons décidé d'organiser une Galerie de Cartes.
Nous vous invitons donc à contribuer à ce qui sera une exposition dynamique et passionnante du meilleur de la cartographie!
Apporter votre contribution à la galerie de cartes est simple : concevez une carte à l'aide d'au moins une technologie Open source ou de données libres .

Cette carte peut être le résultat d'une activité professionnelle ou d'un défi personnel.
Nous encourageons donc tous les participants à soumettre leur travail sur papier (A1 maximum). Si vous n'êtes pas dans la possibilité d'imprimer votre carte vous-même, vous pouvez la soumettre via e-mail. Les cartes interactives sont aussi les bienvenues (merci de fournir l'URL).

Pour être complet, nous demandons également une courte description de votre carte ainsi que, si possible, une brève présentation des méthodes, logiciels et données utilisés pour la conception et la production de la carte.

Plus simplement, deux critères sont à respecter pour soumettre votre travail :
* La conception de la carte doit être récente 2016-2017
* Au moins une étape du processus de production doit être réalisée en utilisant une technologie Open source ou les données libres

Nous invitons donc vivement tous les utilisateurs, concepteurs ou créateurs de cartes de partout en Belgique ou d'ailleurs, à contribuer à ce qui sera, sans aucun doute, la plus détonante des Galeries de Cartes.

Your map can be the result of a commercial venture or a personal challenge.

We encourage all attendees to submit their work on paper (maximumsize A1). If you are unable to print your map you can send it by e-mail (see instuctions below). Interactive maps are welcome as well (please provide us with an URL).

You will also be asked to provide us with a short description of your map and possibly a brief statement of the methods, software and data you used in your map design and production.

== FOSS4G Belgium 2017 - Appel à contribution pour la Galerie de Cartes ==

Le FOSS4G.be est une conférence annuelle consacrée aux logiciels libres dédiés au geospatial. Cette année, notre événement se tiendra le 26 octobre à Tour et Taxi (Bruxelles)

En tant que conférence consacrée à la Géomatique, des cartes doivent très naturellement y trouver leur place! C'est pourquoi nous avons décidé d'organiser une Galerie de Cartes.
Nous vous invitons donc à contribuer à ce qui sera une exposition dynamique et passionnante du meilleur de la cartographie!
Apporter votre contribution à la galerie de cartes est simple : concevez une carte à l'aide d'au moins une technologie Open source ou de données libres .

Cette carte peut être le résultat d'une activité professionnelle ou d'un défi personnel.
Nous encourageons donc tous les participants à soumettre leur travail sur papier (A1) ou via e-mail (merci d'ajouter des captures d'écrans).
Les cartes interactives sont aussi les bienvenues (merci de fournir l'URL).
Pour être complet, nous demandons également une courte description de votre carte ainsi que, si possible, une brève présentation des méthodes, logiciels et données utilisés pour la conception et la production de la carte.

Plus simplement, deux critères sont à respecter pour soumettre votre travail :
* La conception de la carte doit être récente 2016-2017
* Au moins une étape du processus de production doit être réalisée en utilisant une technologie Open source ou les données libres

Nous invitons donc vivement tous les utilisateurs, concepteurs ou créateurs de cartes de partout en Belgique ou d'ailleurs, à contribuer à ce qui sera, sans aucun doute, la plus détonante des Galeries de Cartes.

== Directives dans le cas où vous souhaitez amener votre carte papier sur place ==

Envoyez-nous mail à : map@foss4g.be (avant le 22 octobre 2016) afin de nous demander la réservation d'un espace dans la galerie.

Apporter sur place, lors de la conférence, une copie papier à suspendre dans la galerie.
Les supports mis à disposition sont prévus pour l'affichage de cartes papier d'un format A1.
Les cartes de plus grands formats ne sont pas admises.

Transmettez-nous votre carte pour le 26 octobre 2016 via e-mail (map@foss4g.be).

Les critères à respecter sont les suivants :
* La carte doit être uniquement en format .pdf (Inclure toutes les polices)
* Résolution minimale: 2342 x 3311 pixels (nous imprimerons les cartes en A1)

S'il s'agit d'une carte interactive, merci de nous fournir l'URL exacte.

== FOSS4G Belgium 2017 - Call for Maps ==

The [http://2017.foss4g.be FOSS4G.be] is an annual conference focused on open source geospatial software. This year, the event will be held on October 26 at Tour and Taxi (Brussels).

As a geospatial conference, maps should certainly be a part of it! That's why we decided to organise a Map Gallery exhibit:
We invite contributions to the FOSS4G Map Gallery in order to create an exciting and vibrant exhibit of the very best in mapping.
Contributing to the FOSS4G.be Map Gallery is simple: make a map involving at least open source technology or open data.

Your map can be the result of a commercial venture or a personal challenge.
We encourage all attendees to submit their work on paper (A1) or via e-mail (please also add a screenshot).
Interactive maps are welcome as well (please provide us with an URL).
You will also be asked to provide us with a short description of your map and possibly a brief statement of the methods, software and data you used in your map design and production.

To make it simple, the two criteria's for submitting your work are :
* The Map must have been created in 2016-2017
* At least one step of the production process must have been achieved using open source technology or open data.

We invite all users, inventors or map creators from anywhere in Belgium or elsewhere to contribute to what will surely be an amazing Map Gallery.

== On-Site Submission Guidelines ==

E-mail map@foss4g.be (before October 22) and tell us to reserve a space in the gallery for you.
Bring a paper copy of your map with you to the conference to hang in the gallery.
The gallery map boards accommodate A1 paper maps.
Larger maps are not allowed.

== Online Submission Guidelines ==

Submit your map by October 22 via e=mail (map@foss4g.be).

Maps submitted online must meet the following criteria:

- Must be in .pdf format only (Include all fonts or convert to outlines.)
- Minimum resolution: 2342 x 3311 pixels (we’ll print the maps in A1)

If you made a interactive map, please provide us with the URL.

= About OSGeo Belgium =
Welcome to the wiki page of the Belgium OSGeo chapter.

== Mission and objectives ==

After discussion amongst the active local chapter members we come to the
following list of mission objectives:

* Community-building and networking around specific Belgian themes and within Belgian fora.

* Organisation of events
: These two mission statements are working together. We believe it is important to meet people face2face. To help them to start open source initiatives, to start using open source solutions, to establish an eco-system that benefits from the cooperation, the sharing and the co-creation open source delivers.

* Lobbying
: We think it is important to speak as one voice, and to get involved with other organisations: administrations, industries, user groups, ... OSGeo. Be will actively speak as an organisation to defend the OSGeo open source spirit in the broader Belgium community (government, academic, industry, other open initiatives).

* Networking with other OSGeos (notably OSGeo-fr and OSGeo.nl)
: OSGeo Belgium will focus on local activities (Belgium based). OSGeo Belgium will advertise and promote other OSGeo initiatives and invite members of the other OSGeo chapters on the Belgium events or meetings.
: We think that OSGeo Belgium can act as a bridge between several language communities and cultures, because of it's unique composition.

* Support to higher levels of OSGeo
: We believe that OSGeo only can grow if supported from the base. So OSGeo Belgium is willing to help OSGeo where necessary, to leverage idea's or act as an advisor if appreciated.

* Support to OSGeo in lobbying European Union Institutions (Commission, Parliament, etc) related to specific EU-Themes (INSPIRE, H2020, Procurement policy, ...)

== Communication ==

Discussions are held on the dedicated [http://lists.osgeo.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/belgium mailing list].
Next to the mailinglist there is a (board) meeting planned monthly, most of them trough digital communication. The meeting minutes can be found on this page.

== History of OSGeo Belgium ==

During the last FOSDEM [http://www.osgeo.org/node/1488 Geospatial devroom] OSGeo was represented. It
was a great opportunity for Belgium OSGeo members to meet each other and
start talking about organizing ourselves a bit more, so actions in
Belgium can be better supported. Belgium is, as a country divided in at
least 3 speaking languages and 3 official languages. The active OSGeo
community members today are either active in the [http://osgeo.nl/ OSGeo.nl], the [http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Francophone OSGeo.fr]
or in several OSGeo communities.

However, OSGeo-nl and OSGeo-fr are language-oriented communities with
their geographical weight centred in respectively the Netherlands and
France, and the separation by language has impeded on any specific
Belgian activities, notably networking and lobbying with administrations
that are bilingual on some levels of governance. Thus the need arose to
provide a specific Belgian forum.

In 2015 we (OSGeoBE) organised the first [[Belgium/FOSS4G]]
on 29 October 2015 in Brussels. This event was used to announce
the birth of our Chapter.

=== 2016 April 18, Brussels ===
On 18 April 2016, OSGeo.be will be organising their first GeoDevEvening. The theme will be webmapping and especially Openlayers 3. There will be two speakers, Pierre Marchand of Atelier Cartographique wil give an overview of Webmapping tools. Later we will take a deeper dive with Thomas Gratier, one of the authors of the OpenLayers 3 Beginners guide.

OpenLayers 3 is a JavaScript based library for web mapping, published under BSD license. It groups a set of functionalities to create both lightweight web mapping applications and more heavy web mapping applications for advanced usages. It enables display of geographic features (markers, lines, polygons) with custom styles, most of the time with background maps services from various sources (including OpenStreetMap). It manages all interactions to select, draw geographic entities, display, measure geographic coordinates and manage different Earth representations using cartographic projections.

The event will happen at BEL in Brussels (those who were at FOSS4G.be will remember the place), next monday 18 april at 19:00 until 22:00. The event is free. You can register here.
