The OSGeo Community Sprint 2023 will be hosted by the Big Data from Space 2023 (BiDS) event.

BiDS brings together key actors from industry, academia, EU entities and government to reveal user needs, exchange ideas and showcase latest technical solutions and applications touching all aspects of space and big data technologies, providing a unique opportunity to discuss and present the most recent innovations and challenges encountered in the context of big data from space. The 2023 edition of BiDS will focus not only technologies enabling insight and foresight inferable from big data from space. Together, we want to emphasize how breakthrough space data driven technologies impact on society’s grand challenges, such as climate change and the green transition.

The Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) has a long tradition of organizing code sprints for developers of Open Source GIS software.

An international community/code sprint for OSGeo will take place Nov 6-9, 2023.

We expect about 80 developers from all over the world to come from various [https://www.osgeo.org/, OSGeo] projects. Whether desktop application, geospatial library, metadata catalog or web mapping: be sure to find products in the list that you use. The sprint is also an opportunity for your developers to meet with the core developers of the projects, get a deeper insight into the software and participate in the development.

In addition to the costs of providing the technical infrastructure and space, food and drink for the developers represents the main cost. Morning/afternoon meals and drinks during the day are planned. In addition, we hope to provide several evening meals and social events.

The OSGeo Community Sprint 2023 will be hosted by the Big Data from Space 2023 (BiDS) event.

BiDS brings together key actors from industry, academia, EU entities and government to reveal user needs, exchange ideas and showcase latest technical solutions and applications touching all aspects of space and big data technologies, providing a unique opportunity to discuss and present the most recent innovations and challenges encountered in the context of big data from space. The 2023 edition of BiDS will focus not only technologies enabling insight and foresight inferable from big data from space. Together, we want to emphasize how breakthrough space data driven technologies impact on society’s grand challenges, such as climate change and the green transition.

The event, organized by the [https://www.esa.int/ European Space Agency] (ESA) together with the [https://www.satcen.europa.eu/ European Union Satellite Center] (SatCen) and the [https://commission.europa.eu/about-european-commission/departments-and-executive-agencies/joint-research-centre_en Joint Research Center] (JRC), will take place at the [https://www.acv.at/en/ Austria Center Vienna], and counts with the support of the partners [https://www.ffg.at/en FFG], [https://austria-in-space.at/en/ Austria in Space] and the [https://www.bmk.gv.at/en.html Federal Ministry Republic of Austria].

The Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) has a long tradition of organizing code sprints for developers of Open Source GIS software.

An international community/code sprint for OSGeo will take place Nov 6-9, 2023.

We expect about 80 developers from all over the world to come from various [https://www.osgeo.org/, OSGeo] projects. Whether desktop application, geospatial library, metadata catalog or web mapping: be sure to find products in the list that you use. The sprint is also an opportunity for your developers to meet with the core developers of the projects, get a deeper insight into the software and participate in the development.

This years' sprint will take place in Vienna and will be hosted by [https://www.bigdatafromspace2023.org/, Big Data From Space '23] and organized by members of the local OSGeo chapter.

In addition to the costs of providing the technical infrastructure and space, food and drink for the developers represents the main cost. Morning/afternoon meals and drinks during the day are planned. In addition, we hope to provide several evening meals and social events.

== Rechtsform, Konto ==
Die OSGeo wurde 2006 als non-profit Foundation in Delaware, USA gegründet.



Die Aktivitäten der OSGeo erfolgen auf freiwilliger Basis. Der FOSSGIS e.V. ist finanziell vollständig unabhängig von OSGeo und hat ein eigenes Konto in Deutschland.

In Deutschland gibt es seit vielen Jahren ein Netzwerk rund um Freie Software in der Geoinformationsverarbeitung. Der Vorläufer des FOSSGIS e.V. ist die GAV e.V. (GRASS Anwender-Vereinigung), die bereits seit 1999 die gleichen Ziele verfolgte wie die OSGeo.

== Ziele ==
Die Ziele der deutschsprachigen OSGeo Arbeitsgruppe entwickeln sich durch die Beiträge der Mitglieder. Eine erste Orientierung geben die [[Local Chapter Guidelines | Richtlinien für lokale Gruppen]], einzelne Schwerpunkte werden sich im Laufe der Arbeit herauskristallisieren.
* Bereitstellung eines Netzwerkes für die Mitglieder, ggf. mit Job-Börse.

* Kontaktstelle für neue Mitglieder und Sponsoren
* Führung eines Regionalbüros mit Konto, Telefon, Ansprechpartner
* Übersetzung von Dokumenten, Inhalten, Webseiten und Lokalisierung von Software (Anpassung an örtliche Besonderheiten)
* Lösungen im deutschsprachigen Raum bewerben
* Erstellung von regionalisierten Software-Paketen
* Training, Support und Entwicklung von e-Learning Inhalten in deutscher Sprache
* Förderung von offenen Standards und freien Zugang zu räumlichen Daten im deutschsprachigen Umfeld.
* Förderung der OSGeo Foundation durch Präsentationen, Informationsveranstaltungen, Messestände, etc.

== Steuerung ==
Das deutschsprachige Local Chapter der OSGeo ist der [[FOSSGIS e.V.]]. Beteiligen Sie sich an der Gestaltung, indem Sie sich einbringen, werden Sie Mitglied. Entscheidungen werden wie bei Open Source üblich per Email an die Mailing Liste geschickt und diskutiert. Beschlussfähige Vorschläge werden von einem Mitglied vorgeschlagen, von einem zweiten Mitglied unterstützt und dann zur Abstimmung gebracht.

=== Wahl ===
Die Wahl erfolgt über Ablehnung, Zustimmung oder Gleichgültigkeit:
-1 = Veto, Ablehnung
-0 = nicht einverstanden, beugt sich aber der Mehrheit
0 = trägt die Entscheidung der anderen mit, kann aber nicht beurteilen, ob sie gut ist (zu wenig Information, keine Zeit sich zu informieren, etc.)
+0 = unterstützt den Antrag passiv, kann aber nicht aktiv zum Thema beisteuern
+1 = Zustimmung, unterstützt den Antrag voll und arbeitet auch mit

=== Veto ===
Wer mit -1 wählt legt ein Veto ein. Damit das Veto angenommen werden kann muss es innerhalb der Wahlfrist begründet und am besten gleich mit einem Alternativvorschlag eingebracht werden.

=== Unterstützung ===
Wer mit +1 wählt muss auch bereit sein aktiv mit der Lösung mitzumachen. Sonst gibt es zu viele faule Beobachter und zu wenige Arbeiter.

=== Veto überstimmen ===
Ein Veto kann überstimmt werden
* durch eine absolute Mehrheit der Mitglieder
* oder wenn mindestens vier Mitglieder mit einer +1 wählen.

Alle Ergebnis können immer angefochten werden (bis uns was besseres einfällt).

== Offizieller Status und Dokumente ==
Die Open Source Geospatial Foundation ist eine rechtliche Organisation aus 73 Satzungsmitgliedern (Charter Members), 9 gewählten Direktoren, und dem Präsidenten. Alle offiziellen Projekte und Dokumente müssen von dem Direktorium abgenommen werden bevor sie offiziellen Status erreichen. Offizielle Dokumente werden online auf http://www.osgeo.org hinterlegt und dadurch "Official Policy" der OSGeo. Alle Informationen in diesem Wiki sind lediglich informativer Natur, auch wenn die Inhalte in vielen Fällen durch die Community als bindend betrachtet werden.
